Access to advanced medical equipment is steadily increasing across the African continent, driven by ongoing investments in healthcare infrastructure and international collaboration. However, the availability of such equipment must go hand in hand with the necessary technical understanding to ensure safe and effective operation. As emphasized by the World Health Organization*, strengthening biomedical capacity through practical training is essential to improve health service delivery in low- and middle-income countries.
In response to this need, SternMed GmbH partnered with R:Ed – Right for Education Africa to deliver an educational initiative focused on the fundamental technologies behind key medical devices. The program aimed to deepen the understanding of biomedical engineers, technicians, and healthcare practitioners on how essential systems—such as imaging, ICU, and OR equipment—work, contributing to better-informed healthcare delivery.
